North India : Punjab
These men, with their typical sikh turban and beard, are selling sweets. The sweets are bought and distributed amongst people (irrespective of caste, creed, faith or sex), to signify that all people are welcome at God's abode and as everyone eats the same food everyone is equal - no Sikh believes in any ritual or sacrifice to please GOD.
The sweets become a form of sacred food to signify equality in the eyes of the supreme power and also to show that food is a significant part of our lives and how important it is to keep ur body healthy and also not waste food (since it is a sin for a Sikh to ever FAST). Sikhism is the main religion in the Punjab. The ultimate place for a sikh pilgrim is Amritsar, where the Golden Temple is the main place of worship. Amritsar is a important city for the Jains too.
